Natural Ways to Take Care of Cold Sores

Published under Health by writer. No Comments .

Many of us suffer from cold sores and there are many ways to tackle this problem. But we all want medicine which is effective and without side effects. There is a smart and time proven way to tackle cold sores, suffer no side effects and not waste your money is by using herbal remedies. Most importantly they have been used for a very long time and proven to be effective.

What are the causes and symptoms of cold sores? A cold sore is sometimes known as a fever blister and they are the result of a viral infection. They appear on our skin after we suffer from a cold or fever. The cold sore can last for about two weeks and in pain terms can range from mildly irritating to quite painful; this is especially so if a secondary bacterial infection develops.

So, how to handle cold sore herbal way?

There are several things you can do for yourself once you notice a cold sore or sores. An oily skin helps cold sores to linger and possibly even spread. You should wash your face at least twice a day with warm water and a gentle soap. Always consider your personal hygiene and keep your skin as oil-free as possible.

Now, let’s get down to how to get rid of fever blisters.

Here is an excellent way to treat yourself. Make a paste using oatmeal and Aloe Vera. Apply the paste gently on and around the cold sore area and allow standing for about 15 minutes. Wash away the paste after that time. This process will remove dead skin and help new cells to grow. This is a simple herbal cold-sore remedy.

Another home-based treatment involves the understanding and implementation of an old rule - prevention better than cure. Take care of your health with sensible and regular exercise and careful attention to a good diet. You should have a balanced diet including a mix of minerals, proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates. Your intake of liquids, especially water, is vital. If you give yourself plenty of sleep and include a good diet and proper exercise, you are well on the way to preventing cold sores before they start.

Coming back to the practical assistance of herbal remedies and their effectiveness and low cost, consider wet, cold tea-bags. Apply them to the infected area several times a day leaving them in position for up to 30 minutes at a time. It’s the tannin in the tea which acts as a remedy against the virus in your system. An added bonus is that it stops the spread of the virus to other parts of your body.

Then there’s the use of folic acid and vitamin B12 to tackle cold sores. Fruit and vegetables and especially leafy vegetables contain liberal amounts of iron and vitamin B12. Consume fruit and vegetables every day and build your immune system. And you can supplement these dietary items with folic acid herbal supplements.

Finally you can make at home another simple herbal remedy. Make a paste using coconut oil, a touch of carbolic acid and some anti-bacterial liquid. Apply this paste two or three times a day to the cold sore. It will feel smooth to your skin and bring relief to your discomfort.

Tips and Advice When Purchasing Futon Beds

Before you go out and buy a futon bed and mattress make sure you buy a futon bed mattress that best suits your needs. Buying a futon bed can be a cheap alternative to buying a sofa bed, but if you don’t know exactly what futon you want, you may live to regret it.

Futon beds have become increasingly popular. These dual purpose pieces of furniture are great when you don’t have much space, or if you want a sofa that can be occasionally used as a bed for guests. Futon beds also tend to cost less than the more traditional sofa beds. However before buying a futon bed and mattress you should decide exactly what function the futon bed will be put to use.

First, futon beds tend to come in two varieties; a bi-fold frame or tri-fold frame. A bi-fold futon bed is where the frame folds the mattress in half; down the middle, lengthways. A tri-fold futon bed is where the frame folds the mattress into thirds, widthways; one third forms the seat, one third the back, and the final third folding over the back or underneath the seat. When folded, the bi-fold futon bed mattress has a wider seating area than does the tri-fold futon bed mattress. The bi-fold futon looks much more like a traditional sofa, whereas the tri-fold futon looks more like a two seat sofa. If space is very limited you may want to consider buying a tri-fold futon bed mattress, but if not, the bi-fold futon bed mattress usually looks far more pleasing to the eye.

Secondly, it should be borne in mind that it isn?t the futon frame that provides the comfort when either sitting or sleeping on a futon: it is the futon mattress that provides the comfort. A futon bed mattress made for a tri-fold futon frame is not as thick as that for a bi-fold futon bed frame. Therefore, if you intend to sleep on your futon regularly you might be best to buy a bi-fold futon bed mattress: a thicker mattress tends to provide more support. But if space is at a premium and you will only occasionally sleep on your futon best, than the tri-fold will certainly suffice.

Flexibility basically defines how easy folding the futon mattress is going to be. If you are going to folding the mattress daily from sofa to bed back to sofa again, then buying a futon bed mattress with a lot of flexibility makes sense. Futon bed mattresses are made from a variety of materials. The different materials used in futon mattresses will directly affect the four qualities of weight, firmness, rigidity, and flexibility. The following is a rough guide as to the qualities of futon mattresses made from 100% cotton, cotton and foam, cotton and polyester, 100% polyester, and innerspring.

Building a Strong Smoking Habit

Published under Health by Sara Mendez. No Comments .

Imagine you wanted to start a habit. A strong, automatic way of thinking and acting. How do you start a habit like this? There are three basic ways; emotions, authority figures, and repetition.

An example will help explain this.

Let’s just use a younger you for the example, 10-14 years old. And for this example, let’s use the habit of smoking. If you don’t smoke…. replace the word “smoking” with any craving you get, or just pretend you smoke? It is an article about smoking after all.

While in that age range, we’ll assume you were learning about life and how you fit in it. You may not have felt as sure about yourself as you would later in life.

Kids that age sometimes feel self-conscious, dependent on others, powerless, not good enough, or??. We’ll call this feeling “bad”. This is not saying you felt miserable, but maybe didn’t feel “good” as you thought you should feel? Did you feel as “good” as you thought other people felt?

Possibly, (probably) not. Which would mean you wanted to feel better, or at least as good as you thought other people feel. What would make you feel better? That depends on the influences in your life to that point.

Experiences that teach you smoking is strong, capable, tough, independent, self-assured, unique, and feels “good”. Experiences that involve emotions, authority figures and repetition. Of course advertisements do this, so do parents and family members. Are these experiences repeated? Of course.

Your mind would develop a craving for the very thing it believes is in your best interest. The thing that will make you feel better. A craving that is a “feeling”, separate from a “knowing”.

Then you tried your first cigarette, and chances are that you weren’t so good at smoking. That would come with practice.

As life continues you come across situations that make you feel “bad” again and do what you’ve been taught makes you feel “good”. That is repeated emotions and practice and you have a strong habit.

If you’ve tried to stop smoking before, you may have already thought of these things. And you’ve spent time thinking and analyzing your habit. But, you didn’t learn this habit by thinking and analyzing, so why would trying to quit smoking that way?

It is common sense to quit smoking using the same elements that created the habit. A “hypnotized” mind, along with emotions, authority figures and repetition. These are the elements of modern hypnosis.
