Personal productivity is something that is fairly difficult to quantify. Most people tend to just assume if they are doing better than the average person then they are doing good. Personal productivity is a topic of interest to many people, one might not think of productivity as being applicable in a scientific area but as a scientist I can tell you that it is a big topic with me. I often look back to my grad school days and remember when I could work on my dissertation or do data analysis for hours on end and time just seemed to fly by.

Information can be good, neutral or bad - productive, useless or counter-productive - free or cost a billion dollars. And there’s no necessary (or often, obvious) relationship between these factors. Information technology holds true potential in helping universities achieve academic excellence and value to our society. There are even several areas of research and ways of education that would not be possible today without IT.

Technology cannot exist in a vacuum. It must be accompanied by professional development, change management plans, technical leadership, and curricular support.
