Developing Your Business By Moving Past Your Comfort Area

Published under Business by writer. No Comments .

How many of us at sometime or another have procrastinated about what we should or shouldn’t be doing with our business. You are not alone and many business owners face this dilemma because running your own business can be a daunting time and costly if you make less favourable decisions.

One of the many reasons why we procrastinate in life is due to our fear, or should I say our perceived fear of likely outcomes and is one of the reasons we prefer to stay within our comfort zones, where we feel safe. This is no different when running a business.

We all operate according to our individual perception of reality from a position of comfort and it is a natural survival instinct for us to do things that are within our own individual ‘Comfort Zones’. However, one thing that sets achievers apart from others is that they acknowledge the importance of safely stepping outside of our comfort zones and stretching ourselves more than usual.

It is only when we step outside of our comfort zones and in to an area of ‘stretch’ that new learning’s become accessible to us, it is these new learning’s that provide the essential feedback necessary for us to grow and develop. It allows us to engage in a ‘trial and error’ process.

However, it is also essential to understand that we all have different comfort zones and the thresholds for what is comfort, stretch or panic vary from one person to the next. For example, if you had a goal to become an excellent and skilled trapeze artist and looked to a world famous performer to model yourself on, is it pragmatic to stretch yourself to the same extent as them? Swinging around above a safety net at 100 feet may present no problems for someone who is experienced and yet for others it will be too much of a stretch.

We each have our own comfort zones and a goal that may not be a challenge for some, may be too much of a challenge for others. Therefore, whilst modelling our behaviour on others is a great way to understand how we can potentially achieve the same results, it can also result in us over stretching ourselves and lead to experiencing a sense of panic, which could result in a ‘conditioned response’ of avoidance.

Therefore, when modelling ourselves on others it is necessaryimportant to recognise that we all learn at different paces and levels and therefore to be mindful of not over stretching ourselves. Having realistic goals enables us to stretch safely without stretching too far out side of our comfort zone where we may have the uneccessary experience of panic.

The ‘challenge barometer’ is a model that illustrates where our unique comfort zones sit in relation to new experiences and can be looked at as three concentric circles. The very inner circle is our comforts zone, it is small and does not offer a great deal of scope for development. Outside of this is another circle, which is regarded as an area we can safely stretch in to and develop. Finally, beyond this and one the very outer edge is a third cicle, which is looked at as the area of panic. We enter this when we have stretched ourselves too far.

This model, advocates that it is healthy for our belief system and potential to grow when we stretch ourselves by 10% at every chance. By doing something that takes us outside of our comfort zone and without taking us in to panic, we are able to safely experience new learning’s, which will always generate feedback. For example, think of a goal you might have, which at present you believe is beyond your actual capabilities and then ask yourself what could I do now that would take me 10% towards succeeding in that goal. It may be that your goal is to be confident at public speaking to an audience of 50 strangers. What would 10% of this be? Perhaps it might start off with presenting something to 5 people you know well, and then 10 friends. Having developed your confidence at this level, then 10% stretch may now be to present a speech to 5 strangers and then 10, 15 and eventually building up over a period of time to an audience of 50 people.

Therefore, the process of stretching and challenging ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones can be an effective means of supporting us to develop and achieve our goals, whilst also being able to experience new learning’s that provide valuable feedback. However, we have to be alert of the meanings we attach to the feedback we gain and to ensure that we only ever see it as feedback and not as failure. People who achieve excellence rarely see unexpected outcomes experienced during moments of stretching as failure and value them as feedback, which they use to benefit their decisions and future behaviour.

Popularonline Art Communities: Key Advantages

Published under Arts by writer. No Comments .

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is the satisfaction and beauty of art. In the olden days, before the communications revolution, it was a few assorted experts, art critics and art galleries that decided what was art and how desirable it was. Anyone who did not have access to those experts and galleries had essentially no chance to have their art seen and discussed by an audience outside of friends and family. As a result, many great artists were never discovered and their art languished in their studios, seen by no one. This is really an unacceptable situation. Art should be within reach to anyone, and people should be able to discuss it, comment on it, and even submit their own art in places where artists and art enthusiasts gather.

Fortunately, the increasing accessibility of the Internet is changing the ways in which artists can present their work and invite feedback and discussion. The “Web 2.0″ concept is all about using web technology to bring people together and create communities and social networking. This means that individuals are no longer relegated to being simple consumers of whatever information is out there, but that they can generate information and content, including art, themselves. When you look at directions in entertainment, you see that traditional monolithic information providers such as commercial TV and newspapers are in the ropes while user communities and user-generated content flourishes. I myself seldom watch commercial network TV anymore. There is so much interesting stuff on the web that commercial-interrupted TV has completely lost its appeal.

The information revolution is also a massive boom to contemporary artists. Instead of waiting to be “unearthed” by traditional galleries and art collectors, contemporary painter can simply display their work in one of the many online art galleries and communities. This does not guarantee fame and fortune, but it provides what many artists desire most: getting input from peers and enthusiasts and to be able to make their art potentially available to millions, no matter where on the planet they may live.

There are any number of ways in which artists can take advantage of the web. They can use one of the major social networks, they can join special art communities and forums, or they can even create their own interactive online art galleries to display anything from landscape painting to portraits, sketches, abstract art or anything else they may specialize in. Visitors can browse the site and buy art directly from the artist. They can also interact with the artists via chat, discussion boards or other means of communications. Online gallery artists may also do video interviews or presentations, polls, classes or lead discussion groups. Site visitors may request art from artists whose work and style they like. The opportunities are endless.

The bottom line is that artists now have entirely new ways to show their work and communicate with art connoisseurs and potential buyers. There are no geographic limits, no artificial barriers, no waiting for galleries, and no reliance on connections with important people. The Internet and web are giving opportunity and access to everyone.

Caring For An Apartment Dwelling: Your Rights And Responsibilities

Published under Home by writer. No Comments .

When you rent property whether for the short term - such as domestic vacation destinations, international locations, or even a villa anywhere in the world - or for the longer term in a house or apartment complex, there are obligations and rights that should be taken seriously in the agreement with the owner.

As a tenant, you have rights. Though it will depend on where you live, you typically have the right to:

* live in your space without harassment from your landlord
* the freedom to request 24-hours notice and permission before your landlord enters your property, and
* the expectation that the property and included appliances will be maintained to a particular standard.

On the other hand, you also have responsibilities.

If you’re a new tenant or have questions about caring for a rental apartment, keep reading.

The Lawn: Whose Job is It?

Exactly who is responsible for maintaining the grounds and sidewalks will depend on your lease or rental agreement. Most landlords take on this job themselves.

Regardless of who is caring for the outside of the property, you should respect the land and keep it free from debris and obstructions. If you’re using the driveway, you need to also keep it clean and clear.

Holes and Marks on the Walls

While a reasonable amount of wear and tear is to be expected, you likely won’t receive your full deposit back if you return an apartment to your landlord with holes in the walls and giant scuff marks on the ceiling.

Before you make any major renovations or start painting, check with your landlord and scan through your lease to see what you can and can’t do. Also, if there is an accident that requires major repair, talk to your landlord about either fixing the problem yourself or forfeiting part of your deposit to pay for the problem.

A quick fix for scuffed up and marked walls is to wash them down and paint them in a similar neutral color before you leave the space.

Flooring

Do your best to keep the floors in the condition in which you found them. Try putting felt pads on your furniture legs to minimize scratching. Also, avoid wearing your shoes inside, and always clean up spills quickly.

If you’re worried about your deposit, have the carpets cleaned before you return the apartment keys. Alternatively, some landlords charge a standard cleaning fee at the signing of any lease, so you may be able to skip this step.

Ideally, you want to return the apartment in the condition it was in when you first rented it. For your own protection and the security of your deposit, take photos of the apartment when you first move in. Then, if a “he-said-she-said” problem arises with your landlord, you’ll have your original photographs to back it up.

Does Your Pc Need A Newlease Of Life

Published under Computers by writer. No Comments .

Having purchased my PC last year, with great specs including very quick quad core Chipset, Ram to help its speed and a hard drive that holds a larger amount than I can throw at it I have been looking at things that could better the PC I already have.

Firstly If your chipset is still competing with the market and is able to cope with working with the software you are using you don’t have to think about starting all over again. If it isn’t you may want to think about a new board and chipset. Normally however once you start down this route it is probably worth just purchasing a new desktop as the individual parts often come in at more than a new whole computer.

Second if we take it that your chipset is fast enough, load up the Ram it allows your processor the space to work at top efficiency. Find out which board you have and type the details into Google and you will then be able to pull out what memory your System can use (the price of memory has come down by so much it’s of value investing in it).

Thirdly if you have a vast vault of music or pictures that you want to store, change, access, play then have an individual extra speedy drive to allow you to access your files quickly don’t be fooled by big disc sizes which have a rotation and read speed RPM of 5400 not acceptable, 7400 exceptable and 9600 Yeha!. These 1st three are things that will effect your every day experience of computing.

4th If you have an old PC that is good, but no longer cuts the mustard, you don’t have to get shot of it you can use it as an auxiliary system that you access when you require the information stored on that device and let it run software in the background without effecting your new PC in anyway. Using a KVM Switch is brilliant for this as it allows you to jump between computers using the same Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor to use both systems at the push of a button.

Make sure you get the best Broadband connection you can afford. You don’t have to have the large file through put of an Austin Hughes Rack Mount Server to require a download rate that wont seem like its stuck when you download pictures, videos or songs. Look online to find a provider in your area, then find out what the top download rate your telephone line can normally provide, instead of the one fronted by the provider (it just stops you paying out loads of cash for download speeds you will never achieve) if you can link in unlimited download volumes to this all the better though a lot of people get caught by the fair use policy if you use the internet a lot.

Hopefully this will have helped and I will add more at some other time.

Business ID Cards, And Their Strengths And Multi Faceted Applications

Published under Business by writer. No Comments .

ID cards are becoming a very valuable way for any business to recognize their employees and authorised site personnel at a glance, vastly improving site security at a very low cost. And particularly useful where the company employs a range of temporary workers and frequently has contractors on site, (generic visitor passes are the economical solution here) It can also enable you to improve your customer service by allowing your customers to know with which member of staff they are dealing. Since the photo ID card becomes the focus of attention, it is wise to ensure that it is of the highest possible quality, and formal enough to represent your company image. Poor quality ID card will only reflect poorly upon your organisation, everything about a successful business should reflect the ethos of quality that has elevated them to such a standing in the first place.

If you are in charge of providing Photo ID Cards for your company, there are many solutions that allow you to opt for “home made” ID cards, unless your organisation really cannot afford to go to a professional agency for your Id, I would strongly advise against this. There are many reputable companies that are capable of creating ID cards of stunning design and quality at a very reasonable cost and with turnaround times of just a few days from order to delivery. Company ID cards are also useful to ensure that any employee privileges, such as discounted goods, are not abused by persons not entitled to such advantage.

Where card security is paramount, there are numerous methods that can be adopted to ensure that the cards cannot be tampered with, Photo ID Cards can be printed on cards with an embedded hologram, enabling personnel to confirm their authenticity at a glance, cards can also be laminated during the print process, this gives added security as the details are not just printed on the card, but IN the card, making the effort of altering any details much more difficult. And also offering a higher level of card durability. Cards can easily be produced in line with any existing corporate image. Where a method of infallible authentication of the cardholder is required, it is possible to impose an image of the cardholders signature upon the face of the card.

You may already carry a card from your workplace, many corporations[\spin] use swipe cards to clock in and out each day, Instead of having this, and an ID card, it is possible to combine the two, by having the ID cards printed on magnetic swipe cards, and then programming the cards with each employees clock card data, you create a dual purpose card. Of course there are endless [spin]possibilities to these dual purpose ID cards, company shop discounts, canteen funds, employee bonus incentives, etc.

Starting your own catering business can be an overwhelming chore. One must be very organized and willing to work long and hard hours. Then why do it you ask? Because the rewards are priceless.

Now that you are aware of the rewards it’s time to get to work. The starting point before starting a catering business or any business for that matter, is research and development. Find out what catering you will do. Corporate catering or social catering. Personally, I would recommend a combination of both. Using this approach should keep you busy since most corporate catering is done during business hours and social catering is done in the evening and weekends.

Deciding what type of menus you would like to serve is another important decision. This decision is made on two key factors. First being personal ability: Only you can answer this question? How much experience do you have and what do you feel comfortable preparing? The second is involved around research. Find out what your competition is doing. What is popular in your area, and what has been overlooked? Can you create a position for yourself?

I can’t emphasize enough about sizing up your competition. Find out what they are serving. How much they are charging and what their presentation looks like. Chances are, you will be bidding against them at some point. The more you know about them, the more competitive you can be and still make a profit at the end of the day.

One of the most difficult stumbling blocks to overcome is marketing. You can have the best food, service and price point around but if nobody knows about your business…Well, you know the rest of the story. This can be especially hard if your Starting your own home catering business. There are a few ways to overcome this situation.

I recommend joining your local Chamber of Commerce and participating in all their networking functions. They also provide you with all the contact information of its members which means leads for you.participating in any network club is an inexpensive way to get your name out there. I also recommend getting in contact with event facilities and trying to get on their list of vendors. If they like you, they will use you. Approaching Wedding and Event Planners is another great way to network.

Hands down the best way to drum up business is take samples of your food to potential customers. Call them up and ask if you could make an appointment to discuss your services and would like to bring them lunch.

Eventually, the ideal situation would be to hire a salesperson to perform this task for you. You simply won’t have time. They are generally paid a small salary plus commission. This is the most effective way I have found to get new and repeat business.

Don’t forget your customer once you provide catering services for them. Stay in touch with them, especially corporate accounts. Commercial accounts are continuously getting menus from people, once you get in, keep your name in front of them via phone, e-mail, postcards, etc.

Remember to research your markets, always be networking and don’t be troubled to ask for business. Good luck in all your endeavors and may you find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Colic Cure

Published under Health by writer. No Comments .

Study indicates that more than twenty percent of infants will develop Colic and while this is not a disease or a disorder, moms and dads will have to deal with the continual hours of crying until the newborn is four months of age. When a infant has Colic then the parents will not be able to do anything as a cure since there is no enduring cure for Colic and it goes away only when the infant gets older

Colic Remedy

Because your child is born to breastfeed a soother can help in producing a false feeling of intimacy with the mother and stop him or her from crying. It does no good to sit and watch a baby crying so parents should take the child from the cot and rock it gently to relieve the intestinal colic. Often the sense of touch can do wonders making the baby know that he or she is secure and it is also a good idea to sing a cradlesong that has been known to help the child drift again to sleep. Another way to cure a intestinal colic child will be to use a CD that plays light music because studies have shown this works in a similar way to how the mother sings a cradlesong to the child.

Colic Help

Going for a stroll with baby in a carriage is easier on your back and arms than carrying him everywhere as he gets older and much heavier. Some parents have taken the child for a ride in the automobile, which also helps calm the newborn. A warm bath would also be helpful but if this is not practicable you can try a hot water bottle or a rub down.

Colic Remedies

The foods that the mother takes can also add to the intestinal colic, so you may want to speak to a nutritionist to find a menu free of foods that produce excess abdominal gas. Medicinal drugs like Simethicone drops should be resorted to if the condition persists unaltered. As some mothers stop breastfeeding after the 2nd month and go for cow milk formula, some infants have intestinal colic, so the cure for this is a soy based formula. The main cause of colic in a lot of infants is the intake of air, this is particularly the case when the infant is drinking from a nursing bottle.

It is very essential to routinely check the hole size of the nipple as a big hole would cause the infant to drink a whole lot more than common. If you find a large hole on the teat, then it is time to get a new one. The abnormal crying will not happen once the baby has adjusted to the new surroundings.
