Basement Renovating Tips

Published under Home by writer. No Comments .

Renovating Your Basement

Make your basement a living space
Often, a basement represents “found” living space in your house. If an unfinished basement or cellar can be remodeled to become functional space, you have in essence expanded the size of your house without moving. A remodeled basement provides you with additional comfort and convenience and will raise the future value of your house.

Renovating a basement makes always sense
Even if your basement is already finished, finishing again may still be in order. A previously underutilized basement home entertainment may be transformed into that wine cellar you need, or a infrequently used recreation room for the kids may turn into the spare bedroom room you’ve always wanted. It’s a good possibility that if your basement has already been finished either by the previous occupant, or by you many years ago, a good portion of the work and expense can be cut out of the new project.

Is your basement dry?
It is vital to be sure your basement will remain dry before you begin your basement upgrade. Start your project by thoroughly reviewing the foundation walls, with close attention to the corners and the area where the walls meet the floor. Hire a specialist to fill any cracks in the basement walls you happen to observe, and it would be an excellent investment to have the walls waterproofed prior to starting your remodeling job.

Cover the walls
No matter what type of area you are designing, you must cover the cement or block walls. To cover the basement walls, it is best to employ a dry wall contractor who will stud out the walls and install the drywall. Freshly painted dry wall will instantly provide your unfinished basement space a warmer and more welcoming look.

Build a handsome floor for your foundation
The cement basement floor can be overlaid with linoleum or ceramic tiles, or it may be carpeted. You can mull over having your contractor put in an insulated floor on top of the concrete slab; this will keep the finishing basement cozier and dryer. A well-made and attractive floor gives a finished basement the look of being an integral part of the house, not just a postscript.

Proper lighting
Basements are usually dim, because they have a paucity of, or no natural lighting. Proper lighting is very important to a well-done basement renovation. The goal of basement lighting is to permit the user to forget that he is in a room lacking windows, or at best, equipped with insufficiently sized windows.
If the basement is in some measure below grade, try to install as many windows as is feasible to maximize natural light. Indirect lighting is the most effective way to light a basement, since it gives the area a more spacious appearance, and imparts the impression of higher ceilings. If the basement is completely below ground, the homeowner should use as much lighting as possible to circumvent having the usually low-ceilinged basement look like a cave.

Let your creativity soar.
Since your basement is essentially reclaimed, let your creativity soar. If your budget permits it, you can switch some chilly, damp storage room into a wine cellar, a home entertainment room, a cozy den, a home office - and increase the value of your house in the process.

Any Clue that Gas emissions could be useful and car washes are one of the most eco-friendly businesses out there?

Published under Others by writer. No Comments .

At least that is what an Israeli company thinks. The certain company figured out a way to transform the gas emissions into energy.

Specialists at Haifa want to install, on their roads, generators that will collect the polluted gases that cars leave behind and transform it into electricity. But their initiative has some practical problems, as these generators should be placed beneath the layer of asphalt.

The results however would be spectacular. A generator placed beneath one kilometer of asphalt could produce 500kw per hour, enough energy to sustain more than 800 households.

Their discovery is by all means a great one and would indeed have spectacular results. The question that remains unanswered is “would any country reconstruct their entire infrastructure for this” ? Hopefully, they will realize how much this could help the planet and give it at least a second thought than simply saying no to it as soon as they hear about what it takes to do this. Even though many people might have blamed car washing companies for not being at all safe for the environment, they actually are.

Regarding commercial car washes, these, as any other business, want to make money. The main thing every car wash needs is, well, water. Therefore, water is the thing they pay for the most. This lead to creating special systems that control the amount of water used in a single wash, thus being more cost effective to run and economical for the water suply.

Yes, but most of the people that say car washes aren’t good for the environment aren’t necessarily talking about the amount of water used, but about where the water goes after being used, filled with dirt and cleaning chemicals. Well, they will be glad to learn that, for the same reason - that of cutting the costs down, most car washes have private recycling systems through which they reuse the same water over and over again for a number of cars.

Apparently, washing your car at a commercial car wash takes 45 gallons of water. Washing your car by yourself at home takes between 80 and 140 gallons of water. The cleaning chemicals infested water at a car wash is recycled and does not go back into rivers or lakes, damaging the Eco system, as for the waste water resulted from someone washing its car at home, goes untreated into the environment and causes environmental damage to lakes, streams and river eco-systems.

Now with Spring just around the corner and sunny days ahead, most of you will wash their cars. Keep these things in mind before deciding between washing your car by yourself or paying a few dollars more and taking it to a car wash. You will be thanked by your children’s children.

The Art Of Jack Vettriano, Doug Hyde & The Late Beryl Cook

Published under Arts by writer. No Comments .

Britain has a great number of painters in different fields but today we are going to focus on three of the most popular British artists. They are Beryl Cook, John Vettriano, and Doug Hyde.

The birth of Beryl Cook’s first child also marked the beginning of her artistic talent in the field of painting. Beryl Cook made painting her avocation or hobby and being a hobby, Beryl Cook didn’t invest much when it came to her painting materials. Instead, she started out by painting using her son’s paints and brushes.

It was a friend and antiques trader that became Beryl Cook’s first fan. Her painting skills got the attention of the dealer, who asked her if it would be possible to sell her paintings in her antiques shop. Beryl Cook allowed it and they managed to sell the first three paintings very quickly. Feeling overwhelmed and inspired by the quick sales, she continued to paint.

Beryl Cook’s art feels like you are watching the world through her eyes. She has put on to canvass, the very things that we all do do everyday. Beryl Cook has been very observant of the happenings around her. This is what gets the attention of her fans because her paintings have those chubby characters that are based on real life people, thus adding a personal nod to them. Some of her paintings, including Cruisin’, which portrays what the people are doing whilst on a cruise. Another piece called The Art Class shows the everyday life of art students in a class. For an everyday life of a tennis player, Beryl Cook shows the players shaking hands over the net, emphasizing challenges, winning and losing as a part of our daily lives.

The youngest of them all is Doug Hyde. What differentiates Doug Hyde from Beryl Cook and Jack Vittriano is that he was able to tap his artistic side at a young age and studied the ins and outs of painting so he could become the professional artist as he is today.

Doug Hyde’s pieces are literally handmade because he uses his hands and fingers as paint brushes. Using pastel, he paints according to his emotions and moods. This is Doug Hyde’s way of getting emotion in to his art. Contemporary art critics love his prints because of the personal touch of his work. An example of his works include Written in the Stars, in which a caricature owner and his pet dog look up at the sky, as if they are making a promise on their lives. Declare Your Love shows the emotion of a person that cannot contain his love and is fully offering it to someone. Emotions that blend in the colour tones of pastels became a calling card of Doug Hyde’s art.

Another slow starter is Jack Vettriano, someone who tapped into his artistic side at a later age. Thankfully he didn’t wait too long because he has become very popular with his paintings and prints. Before he became an artist, Jack Vettriano quit school and worked as a miner.

Jack Vettriano prints showcase people who are dressed in smart, sophisticated clothes and in most cases are members of the richer end of society. His most popular art is The Singing Butler, in which a couple is accompanied by their butler and maid on a beach. Another is the Yesterday’s Dreams painting, which shows a sophisticated lady that is peering out of a window. Turneresque showcases three couples that are dancing, a frequent theme in Jack Vettriano’s work much like romance, sensuality, and elegance which are often found in his work.

They have different approaches when it comes to painting but it is their diversity that made them the favorites of the contemporary art scene and their contributions to art deserve to be acclaimed.

Effective Business Training Techniques through Employee Involvement

Published under Business by writer. No Comments .

Employee involvement is key to effective employee training. Employees attending training are preoccupied with their own thoughts and problems. Some are willing to learn and some are not. There are those who are open to new ideas and others who resist. How can you get them involved so that they can take ownership of their own learning during the training? Go to business building process for further information.

1. Put Yourself In The Learners’ Shoes

When delivering training, there is course content to be covered. While this is important, priority has to be given to the fact that the learners are able to receive your content.

What better way than to put yourself into the learners’ shoes and ask yourself a few questions that these learners have when attending training:

- What is this session about?
- Will it be of use to me?
- How can I apply this to the real world?
- What motivates me to attend this session?
- Is the content delivered in an easy and simple way?
- Are different teaching methods involved or is it a boring lecture?

Answering these questions to yourself will help you better prepare to deliver effective training.

2. Assessing Learner Needs

Checking out on learner needs is essential to get learner involvement. This task could be difficult due to time, budget or information constraints. However, it is important and some kind of assessment will make a difference. Refer to business training for more information.

Some points for investigating learner needs are as follows:

- How many participants will be attending the session?
- What are their current job responsibilities?
- What are their skill levels as applicable to the training subject?
- Is attendance voluntary or mandatory?
- How will the training affect their current or future job responsibilities?

If this investigation is not possible before the training session, then when the session starts, it is a good idea to request the participants to introduce themselves and to mention what they would like to achieve from the training session.

3. Communicate With Your Learners

Communicating the objectives and program outline to the course attendees before the session will help them prepare for the training. Properly written, this communication can also be used to motivate the learners such that they will have a positive outlook towards the training.

If this is not done for some reason, then it is important that this be done at the start of the training.

Communication is two ways. Therefore, feedback from the learners must be somehow incorporated into the training. This is extra work. It will be much easier to just deliver the content as is, but the purpose of the training is to enable the learner via effective training, not just delivering content.

4. Switch On The Learners

However well you may be prepared to deliver the session, if the learners are not switched on, the training will not be very effective. Switched on learners will be ready to receive content, which means there is a need to conduct activities to achieve this.

Switching on activities include creative opening exercises that develop positive first impressions, which are crucial to gaining learner commitment. These warm up activities are learner-centered and content-relevant. The intent is to get learner involvement and for the trainer to develop relationships with the learners. These are not the same as icebreakers, which are usually used to entertain and energize learners.

When people arrive at the training venue, they are probably still preoccupied with their own problems and thoughts. The warm up exercises will also be a means of addressing this.

Employee training can be made effective with some extra effort in getting their involvement and hence ownership for the training. You will find that the extra work pays off because you will find the session much more satisfying and feedback from the attendees will be positive. Mountain biking - Competent Guide

Published under Recreation by writer. No Comments .

Cross-Country (XC) is the most popular form of mountain biking, and the standard for most riders. It generally means riding point-to-point or in a loop including climbs and descents on a variety of terrain. A typical XC bike weighs around 25-30 lbs, and has 0-4 inches of suspension travel front and sometimes rear. Some XC riders aspire to XC racing, which is even more physically demanding than regular XC, and like all sports at an elite level requires years of training to compete at a national level. Quickly expanding All-mountain (AM) bike category typically provides 5-7 inches of rear and front suspension travel and stronger components then XC models, while still providing overall weight suitable for climbing and descending on a variety of terrain.

Dirt Jumping (DJ) is one of the names given to the practice of riding bikes over shaped mounds of dirt or soil and becoming airborne. The idea is that after riding over the ‘take off’ the rider will become momentarily airborne, and aim to land on the ‘landing’. Dirt jumping can be done on almost anything with wheels, but it is usually executed on a bicycle. tricks e.g backflips are performed in the air as well.

Downhill (DH) is, in the most general sense, riding mountain bikes downhill. The rider usually travels to the point of descent by other means than cycling, such as a ski lift or automobile, as the weight of the downhill mountain bike SkipRatt often precludes any serious climbing. While cross country riding inevitably has a downhill component, Downhill (or DH for short) usually refers to racing-oriented downhill riding. Downhill-specific bikes are universally equipped with front and rear suspension, large disc brakes, and use heavier frame tubing than other mountain bikes. Because of their extremely steep terrain (often located in summer at ski resorts), downhill courses are one of the most physically demanding and dangerous venues for mountain biking. They include large jumps (up to and including 40 feet), drops of 10+ feet, and are generally rough and steep top to bottom. To negotiate these obstacles at race speed, racers must possess a unique combination of total body strength, aerobic and anaerobic fitness, and mental control. Minimum body protection in a true downhill setting is knee pads and a full face helmet with goggles, although riders and racers commonly sport full body suits to protect themselves. Downhill bikes now weigh around 35 -40 lbs, while professional downhill mountain bikes can weigh as little as 33 lbs, fully equipped with custom carbon fibre parts, air suspension tubeless tires and more. Downhill frames get anywhere from 7 to 10 inches of travel and are usually mounted with an 8 inch travel dual-crown fork.

Freeride / Big Hit / Hucking. Freeride, as the name suggests is a ‘do anything’ discipline that encompasses everything from downhill racing (see above) without the clock to jumping, riding ‘North Shore’ style (elevated trails made of interconnecting bridges and logs), and generally riding trails and/or stunts that require more skill and aggressive techniques than XC. Freeride bikes are generally heavier and more amply suspended than their XC counterparts, but usually retain much of their climbing ability. It is up to the rider to build his or her bike to lean more toward a preferred level of aggressiveness. “Slopestyle” type riding is an increasingly popular genre that combines big-air, stunt-ridden freeride with BMX style tricks. Slopestyle courses are usually constructed at already established mountain bike parks and include jumps, large drops, quarter-pipes, and other wooden obstacles. There are always multiple lines through a course and riders compete for judges’ points by choosing lines that highlight their particular skills. A “typical” freeride bike is hard to define, but 30-40 lbs with 4-7 inches of suspension front and rear is a good generalization.

Trials riding consists of hopping and jumping bikes over obstacles. It can be performed either off-road or in an urban environment. It requires an excellent sense of balance. As with Dirt Jumping and BMX-style riding, emphasis is placed on style, originality and technique. Trials bikes look almost nothing like mountain bikes. They use either 20″, 24″ or 26″ wheels and have very small, low frames, some types without a saddle.

Short Cross or Speed Cross (SC) is the newest form of mountain biking. The idea is to ride short, narrow forest paths with rocks, roots and dints, but not necessarily any ramps on them. The optimal length of the paths are from a few tens to hundreds of meters. The shortness is to provide extreme speed and thrilling to get through the hindrances as fast as possible without crashing. The altitude of the paths does not have to vary much. The ultimate direction of the paths from vertical aspect can be the both ways, either up or down. The transitions between these essential parts are to be taken lightly and stopping at the beginning of every path is to provide maximum amount of thrilling action gained through the speed. The bikes for this purpose can vary from XC to FR.
