A Work From Home Schedule That Works For You. Helpful Points to Remember

Published under Business by writer. No Comments .

When you are working form home, you know that being able to work on a schedule becomes one of the most important things. You’ve probably thought all about how great it will be to have the freedom to work whenever you want, but remember that when this happens you are actually going to be causing a lot of chaos in your own head. Working whenever you want might be great, but imagine if you don’t’ have a work schedule. The temptation to not get your work done on time is hard to pass by, and so is the temptation to work 24 hours a day, in order to either catch up or to do even more than you’ve been doing in the past. This is why having a concrete work schedule is a great way to make sure that you’re on top of things.

There are several ways that you can do this. First of all, the best thing to do is to figure out how much time each week you need to devote to your business. Are there certain things that need to be done every day, or only ever week? Can you get by with only working a few hours each day, or do you need a full work day in order to get things done? some people choose to have full work days two or three days a week, and take the rest of the days off. However, with some businesses you simply need to be at work each day, so this tactic would not work for you.

Once you know how much work time a week you need, you can develop a schedule. Make sure that you’ve got your weekly tasks and your daily tasks posted somewhere, so that you can keep track of things. Remember that even though you have a work at home schedule you should make sure it is rather flexible, because part of the joy of working at home or owning your own home business is that you can take time off when you want and you can build your own hours.

For the most part, the best thing to do is to set a schedule and stick to it. If you need 15 hours per week to do your work, set those hours and be sure that you stick to them. You might want to make allowances to give yourself time to do extra work, or to take on additional projects, but remember that allowing yourself to work longer hours is just one step on the slippery slope of allowing yourself to work each day and each night. Soon you’ll find yourself even more burnt out on your home business than you were when you worked in that office.

A web host is the server or computer where the websites store files, graphics and essential data. The web host provider acts as the site for a collection of web sites all over the world. All the web-hosting client does is upload the websites to the common web server. This web server is maintained by the Internet service provider, which ensures fast and constant access to the Internet. This World Wide Web, which is a collection of sites, can be accessed by anyone through the network.

There are many companies that provide web-hosting services. Many providers offer an extensive range of the virtual hosting plans to meet personal or professional needs of the client. Low cost web hosting service does not mean cheap hardware.

A professional web-hosting provider needs to be of a high quality with custom-built servers. So even if one of the connections is down, the others will provide the necessary connection to the host?s website. This will ensure that the down time to the hosts website is minimal.

A web host has to ensure honest and truthful hosting service to all its customers. Good web hosts ensure that they do not oversell their bandwidth and clutter up the same server with a large number of accounts.

Cheap Hosting does not necessarily mean nasty hosting…

There are some extremely professional & reliable hosting providers out there who provide both cheap & dependable services packed with many features. The trick however, is to be able to identify a cheap hosting company from a cheap & nasty hosting company…

How to Choose a Cheap Hosting Company Without Getting the Nasty Part
Whilst 2 different web hosting companies may appear to offer the same value service with similar benefits & features, the type of service they deliver may be totally different.

The thing is you don’t want to find out about a company’s shoddy service once you have signed up, paid over your hosting fees & have thrown your lot in with them. Or worse still is that what appeared at first to be a reliable hosting company, they disappear overnight without trace.

A web hosting company that turns nasty has to be one of the worst things to happen to a website owner - you’re left in the dark with no live website, no email facility & if you don’t have backups of your website & databases - you are left with nothing at all, ie you have to start all over again…

Perform Theses 6 Checks to Ascertain the Credibility of Any Web Hosting Company
So this is what you can do to ensure that you don’t fall prey to an unscrupulous web hosting company…

Trust Factor - Profile Is the hosting company well known with a profile. For instance you would probably choose a well known name over a name like ‘Joes Cheap Hosting Service’ The higher the profile of the company, ie the more well known it is, the more trust you will have in its services & be safe in the knowledge that you won’t be let down.
Presentation - Website The company’s website will give you a feeling of the level of their professionalism. Also have a look at its page rank which will give you an idea of its popularity & integrity Look for contact details, 24/7 live support and so on.
Reliability (Uptime) Most web hosts will ‘guarantee’ 99.9% uptime - check for proof
24/7 Customer Support Test out their customer support & see how quickly you get a response
Features Obviously you need to compare various features in terms of your needs. Things to consider would be;
Disk Space (Min 600gb)
Bandwidth (Min 9,000gb)
Number of Domains Allowed - Unlimited
Email - POP3 Accounts - Unlimited
Pricing
Site Builder - Included
Instant Backups
AWStats (Real Time Updates) - Website Statstics
ECommerce Features - osCommerce
Latest cPanel with Fantastico Features
45 Day Money Back Guarantee
Free / Instant Setup
MySQL Databases
CGI
PHP 5
Ruby On Rails
This list is not comprehensive but should be the minimum provided by any reputable web host.
Search Online for Bad Reviews Do an online search (by the company name) for bad reviews & comments.

Finally remember that if you sign up with a reputable web hosting company you will not have to settle for bad service, downtime, poor quality & less features.- by Mark Bellinger

Is Microsoft Expression Web A Threat Adobe Dreamweaver

Published under Others by writer. No Comments .

In an interesting change of direction, Microsoft failed to introduce a FrontPage 2007, choosing instead to release a brand-new product aimed at the professional web design market. Now Microsoft find themselves in the unusual position of having a fledgling product competing against an established solution which completely dominates the web page creation arena.

Just as Dreamweaver CS4 is part of the Adobe Creative Suite so Expression Web forms part of Expression Studio, a group of programs aimed at equipping web designers with all the tools they need to design and build web sites. Expression Studio comprises Expression Web, Expression Blend, Expression Design and Expression Media. (As a bonus, it also includes Visual Studio 2005 Standard.) So, should Adobe be quaking in their boots or just grinning smugly; how good is Microsoft’s new offering?

The truth is, Microsoft being who they are, Adobe had better sit up and take notice. Expression web is not just a revamped version of FrontPage (a product which was clearly no match for Dreamweaver). It offers web designers a fairly complete set of tools for building sites compliant with current standards. It has excellent support for XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, ASP.Net and JavaScript. It also shows users a very accurate representation of the web page they are building even without previewing in a browser.

One potential problem which Microsoft will face in attempting to lure users away from Dreamweaver is the fact that Expression Web only runs on PCs. A high proportion of web designers use Apple Mac. Microsoft may find that it’s not enough to make Expression Web a little better than Dreamweaver in order to challenge its dominance; they may have to make it a whole lot better!

Both Dreamweaver and Expression Web allow developers to visually generate server-side code. However, both programs have limitations in this department. In the case of Dreamweaver, support for ASP.Net and PHP is fairly limited and the overall server-side functionality has not been enhanced for several years. In the case of Expression Web, only ASP.Net is supported; there is no support for PHP, ColdFusion or JSP.

Perhaps the biggest challenge facing Expression Web is the sheer size of Dreamweaver’s established market. With over a million installations, Dreamweaver is recognised as the industry-standard in visual web development software. Also, as well as the features of program itself, there are hundreds of Dreamweaver-compatible software add-ons, called “Dreamweaver extensions”, created by third parties and adopted by the Dreamweaver community. Microsoft recognises this and have given Expression Web similar extensibility. However, they have a lot of catching up to do.

In brief, in Expression Web, Microsoft have created a very impressive, professional web development tool which will find a ready market with Microsoft users particularly those who already own FrontPage. However, it’s difficult to see existing Dreamweaver users abandoning Adobe’s equally excellent product any time soon.

QuarkXpress Versus Adobe’s Powerful Quartet

Published under Others by writer. No Comments .

QuarkXPress, for so long the dominant force in the page layout arena, now finds itself fighting for survival and under attack by four products all created by Adobe, who look like achieving the same kind of dominance in the creative market that Microsoft have achieved in the general computing market.

To some degree, Quark only have themselves to blame. Throughout the nineties, they demonstrated a fair amount of complacency with their market position. QuarkXPress was released in 1987 and had only one competitor: Aldus (later Adobe) PageMaker. Mainly because of the greater degree of typographical control and accuracy it offered users, QuarkXPress emerged victorious from this early battle. PageMaker faded into the background, becoming regarded as the program of choice for non-specialists while graphic designers all adopted QuarkXPress. It was only with the advent of InDesign and the more recent release of the Adobe Creative Suite that Adobe was able to offer Quark a serious challenge.

Adobe’s gang of four products are InDesign, a direct competitor to QuarkXPress often dubbed the Quark-killer, Photoshop, the widely-used image-manipulation software, Illustrator the vector graphics package and Acrobat which is used for creating and optimising PDF files. One huge advantage that Adobe now have over QuarkXPress is the way in which these programs interact with each other.

Quark’s rather complacent attitude in the late nineties and early noughties contributed significantly to the shift from QuarkXPress to InDesign. For numerous years QuarkXPress dominated the market. It was the automatic choice for anyone creating publications which were to be professionally printed and there was more than a touch of complacency in their attitude. Upgrades were slow in coming and the product cost the earth.

Users of page layout programs look like being the main beneficiaries of the rivalry between InDesign and QuarkXPress. The release of upgrades to QuarkXPress has greatly accelerated in the last few years, with version 8 not far away and each release now bringing genuinely improved functionality.

Several of the new features in QuarkXPress 7 indicate that Quark are now fully awake to the threat posed by InDesign and are responding to it. QuarkXPress 7 allows the import of native Photoshop files (.psd) and has a special PSD Import palette containing options for manipulating imported Photoshop documents. Users can change the opacity and blend modes of the original Photoshop layers and work with alpha and spot colour channels.

So, does QuarkXPress have much of a future? Most designers have now chosen InDesign as their preferred page layout software.
However, it is not just designers and publishing professionals who will determine Quark’s future. There are many users in the corporate and education sectors and, as with the web arena, there are an increasing number of non-specialist users of QuarkXPress who may be targeted in the future with the release of an intro-level version of the software.
