You have probably heard of the benefits of green living. Green living includes a number of concepts which have to be followed in order to help make our environment better and cleaner and maintain it in that state. Any person can participate in it, and besides every wise modern person should do that. No one requires that you produce ingenious ideas or do some unbelievably complicated things. Everything is much easier than you can imagine.
Did you know that basically all the environmental problems in the world start from our homes? And not only homes – offices, schools, hospitals – any establishments related to people. The problem is that we do not dispose of our waste products in the correct way. We throw away all the types of garbage mixed together and we don’t even think that a great deal of that garbage could be instead recycled into something useful, instead of lying in the landfills and gradually ruining our environment.
I would like to tell you of several principles of green living:
• You have to be careful with what you buy. Try to substitute products that are harmful for the environment with eco-friendly ones, and also try to buy post-consumer goods.
• If you are into gardening, you can participate in volunteer companies members of which plant trees and other plants all over the world. Believe me, even those ten trees that you plant with your own hands can really save the world!
• You don’t have to make great effort to be eco-friendly. If you don’t want to plant trees or to separate the waste products into ten different categories – don’t do that, but make minimum effort! You can still separate plastic and paper from the rest of the garbage, and that will be enough.
• You can also participate in water conservation. It can help in green living as well as save your money. Just try to use less water for your daily needs, because people use on average five times as much water than they really need.
• The farmer market is a brilliant way of maintaining green living. Apart from being absolutely safe for the environment, it is much healthier than the food from supermarkets. But farmer market is safe as long as the farmers don’t use pesticides of other harmful substances for growing their plants, so it is better to plant some vegetables and fruit in your own garden if you have such a possibility.
• And the major way of green living is, beyond all doubt, recycling. There are many recycling centers and you can help them by separating some recyclable materials from the rest of garbage. There are many ways to recycle – you can sell your old furniture or give it to the poor instead of throwing it away; you can make compost from food waste for improving the soil in your garden – use your imagination!
