Models as Anniversary Gifts.
I’m looking for some gifts for my friend’s 10th anniversary. Though I’m quite familiar with his tastes and hobbies it’s not an easy affair to find something special for him and his wife. My friend and his spouse have rather an extraordinary hobby. They are both vivid and interesting personalities though they can’t be considered to be a complete reflection of each other. For example, my friend(his name is Bob) is crazy about making and collecting tiny models of different combat vehicles. His wife (Jessie) likes to purchase examples of artistic compositions which include simulation of a particular historical scene by means of placing several models of houses, trees, people, etc. She especially prefers scenes, depicting an average life of medieval Japan. I should emphasize that Bob is likely to make models with his own hands or even glue them together from kits purchased by him regularly. That’s everything I can tell you about their preferences.
Recently I didn’t notice various models no matter of which type they could be. I simply got used to looking through them. But then Bob helped me to change my point of view. Once I was invited to him and he started to exhibit various models of combat vehicles. He showed me some models of tanks and gave me a long and very detailed lecture regarding their combat performance and the history of their design. Then I found some of them good-looking. Recently I couldn’t understand why was going to collect models, which real prototypes had been often used for killing people. But that only one side of the moon. Soon I realized that these tiny models could help us not to forget the difficult history of mankind. The history, including wars, total destructions of numerous cities and endless human victims. In fact that was the first impression of my exploring them. Then I began to think over deeper. I recalled some memories of my early childhood especially those ones dealing with our military games when being little boys. An unusual and quite forgotten feeling of having the instinct of being a hunter. A common and clear truth retuned to me. Weapons always attracted men and had a specific charming image. Then Bob showed me his models of aircrafts which he had managed to make by himself. These were the most delicate and charming ones among others. I found out that making such models could be rather a complicated activity, requiring special skills. Sure, I haven’t got such skills but Bob is overwhelmed by them.
As for anniversary gifts for this couple I have already made my choice. I’ll purchase a sword for Bob. I’m not an expert in models, but I know that he likes different weapons. So this sword will remind him about me. As for her wife , she’ll be rewarded with a book written with Japanese hieroglyphs. The whole life is left for her to learn these signs. I think that it’s not a bad variant.
