Some Avoidable Mistakes You Can Avoid While Weighing Your Food

Published under Others by writer.

Your food define you. You might have heard this many times while having an appointment with your dietician. What you consume greatly affects your physical strength and your natural metabolism. No matter what you eat; you must eat it right. Calorie count, nutrition levels and the amount of the food you eat must be your basic concerns when you are selecting what to eat. You must also weigh the food you eat accurately to be aware of what you are eating. digital scales used at food stores are good enough to measure the food weight up to milligrams. Yet, those price computing scales are not all you need to tell you the weight of your food.

To weigh your food, you first require a measuring scale. There are several types of scales available in the market when selecting which scale to buy to weigh your food.

When you are measuring your food, it is important that you weigh it uncooked. Cooking makes food lighter than raw food. Take meat for instance, meat loses one third of its weight when it is cooked as the water is being lost. Also, the longer the meat is heated, the more liquid it loses. Yet, as meat is a protein source, too much heating will harm the protein content and it will not serve high nutritional value.

Before you weigh the food item, it is important that you wipe up the scale surface. When you are using electronic scales you should clean it proper to turn it on because cleaning it after turning it on will create errors in reading. The food that you are to weigh must also be appropriately weighed. You should wash the surface to clear away any impurities and then carefully wipe it with a clean piece of cloth to make sure that there are no water residues.

You should also wait for the scale to point to a zero reading before you place the food item on the scale. If you are using a manual scale, you must make sure that the pointer is aligned with the zero reading, or else this may show errors.

Weighing your food is not only about kilograms and grams. Food can be weighed in terms of to the calorie count as well. So far, this is the most widely used method to weigh food and make sure that you are consuming right. Now this may not mean that you will have to leave the idea of eating your favorite foods. You do not have to give up on that but you should not eat dense.

The best method to maintain the calorie count is water. Adding water to the food you are cooking will add extra weight to your food but it will not add extra calories to it. This is the way you can make your food weight more but not really fattening. Soups and greens are a preferable way of doing this. You can have many plates of such a food without having to worry about the calorie count because this is how you will complete your diet, without increasing the calories you are consuming.
