Sarah Palin is an excellent writer. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand her views on matters that are near and dear to all of us, with wonderful pearls of common sense wisdom. However once she began to speak publicly, without a script, I got very nervous. It was clear she had a lot of catching up to do on current events and important historical contexts.
Sara Palin understands this. It is quite clear that this book has the Left upset as they are making an all-out effort to destroy Sarah Palin’s effort to expose what is wrong with right and wrong with America today. Although the book was probably written by someone else, you can still see a lot of the “Palinisms” we have all grown to love or hate throughout the past 2 years. I really had to struggle to get from page to page, but I must admit that the editor did a fairly good job at making this seem halfway intelligible. It brings together a lot of the thinking that has made American the exceptional nation it is. There is a great deal in the book that can be read to kids to tell them about what their country means to them and the world. After all, Christian conservatives like her never worked to get those things inserted when the pledge and our currency didn’t have them, wait, that’s exactly what they did! I expect fully to get negative ratings with this review because to criticize Palin to a far right-winger is like criticizing Jesus himself. I thought Palin’s first book was more authentic; this one seems more like a less academic version of Spalding’s book. Maybe she can get back to something original next time.
As soon as some companies move back into town (2012, I’m hoping!) I’ll be able to get a good job again, because I’m hard working and can appreciate a hard working gal like Sarah Palin. AMERICA BY HEART is a frivolous and shallow book, chock full of ignorance, gibberish, cheap demagoguery, and shameless opportunism and wholly devoid of any redeeming value. It’s misleading, misinformation, glossing over of issues, and trying to paint the tea party as simply interested in correcting all the wrongs of the Obama administration. The National debt only comes up in the context of Obama adding to it with no understanding or mention of the financial crisis that had hit this country during the Bush administration. In one chapter she rants about self-centeredness in people yet she is always talking about pro-American. When’s the last time you heard commentary in other countries about pro-Canadians, pro-French, or pro-Japanese? Her assertions imply the Constitution is a tool to be used in tandem with Christianity and its dogma. Even in the new millennium, an eye brow lifting portion of the populace still do not understand the simple and straight forward concept that is the separation of church and state.
It’s the kind of life that shapes a character that stays confident, strong, and *happy* whether the economy is up or down, whether she’s making a million dollars or minimum wage, whether her child gets into college or has Down’s Syndrome. And that honestly was what I thought was the main weakness of the book.
I did not however believe that she was aware enough on the issues to be a potent candidate for higher elective office. Thought I’d give it a try, couldn’t get past chapter two. Politics aside this book is self-serving and lacks any depth. The many quotes and references Palin uses from the pages of history, our founding fathers, and more recent conservative leaders such as Ronald Reagan, confirmed to me what is good and worth fighting for in America. Book shipped and arrived great.
