There is a large variety of bonsai trees that you can select from but an extremely popular type is the Juniper. Possibly one of the reasons for its popularity is that you have the choice of growing the tree either inside or outside. It is a low growing bonsai with lush greenery.

Juniper bonsai care is quite easily followed with just a few important rules to ensure a healthy long living happy tree. Where some trees need semi-shade this particular species loves lots of bright light with a minimum of four hours direct sunlight a day. The best age to go for when choosing a tree is between three and seven years of age. Ask the age of the tree when visiting your local garden center. If buying through a mail order service or online make sure the company can deliver overnight to ensure a healthy tree.

There’s the option of purchasing a young juniper tree so that you can prune and train it yourself. The older trees will have been groomed and trained already. Young or old, it is a personal choice. Training a young tree will require years of patience to get your it to the style you desire. Remember, juniper trees require a great deal of water as well as sun.

If you provide proper juniper bonsai care you will find over the years it grows into a magnificent work of art. This variety of tree grows with outstanding beauty remaining green throughout the year. Placing the tree in a humidity tray will always ensure the tree has the right levels of humidity important for healthy growth.

As an example, the Green Mound Chinese Juniper is a type of tree from Japan. This specific tree develops best in a 5 zone in full sun to semi-shade. Be sure to use liquid fertilizer and feed the tree on a monthly basis. To ensure optimal results, use liquid food and you’ll produce a happy healthy thriving tree.

If your juniper tree is a couple of years old and you want to transplant it, it’s an easy process; just wait until early April, clip the wires (if present) and ease the plant and root ball from the planter.

The next step is to trim the root ball using sharp scissors taking the bulk off from the sides and bottom usually to about one half inch. Then replant your juniper in a clean pot using well drained soil. After re-potting it is best to leave the tree in a shaded area for four weeks and then start feeding with liquid food.

It is important to keep in mind that each different tree needs its own separate attention; however, Juniper Bonsai care is not complicated if you keep a few simple steps in mind. Remember that the best time to prune this tree is during the late spring and early summer months. You can do so on an as-needed basis until about mid-September. When new growth is around one inch long, use your fingers and thumb to pinch back approximately half of an inch and tug slightly.

One of the most annoying behaviors that a dog can exhibit is jumping. Annoying as it may be, many experts say this is simply the dogs way of getting closer to you. Even if a large dog has the best intentions, it can be a very scary thing and it may be in your best interest to find out how to stop dog jumping behavior before something bad happens.

A dog’s natural behavior is to jump up on a person when they want to be friendly. As the owner of the dog, you need to train your dog not to jump up on people. Also, let people know if they want to pet your dog, to kneel down to the dog’s level. As the dog’s owner, you should be an example, and kneel down to your dog. At the same time, show where the dog likes to be given attention. For example, rubbing behind the ears, sniffing your hand first, or scratching a dog’s chest.

Many people want to learn how to stop dog jumping behavior before they have even trained their dog in the basics. When training your dog to stop jumping on you or others you must make sure that he is properly trained in sitting first. It will be to difficult trying to teach your dog two commands at the same time. Be patient with your pet and diligent, soon your hard work will pay off.

For the training you should begin with your dog standing in front of you. You can immediately determine when your dog is about to jump up. What you want to do is look for the signs - muscles tensing, tail wagging etc… When you notice that they’re thinking about jumping up command the dog to sit. If the dog jumps up on you regardless (and he likely will at first) bring your knee up to his chest and firmly tell him Off. You might be tempted to say down. However, that is the command to get your dog to lay down and should only be used for that purpose.

The goal is not to hurt your dog, but to gently raise your knee, knocking the dog off balance. This is a natural way to show him the “off” command and you should reward him when he listens. Repeat this enough times and he will associate the word off with not jumping on people.

No one likes a dog that misbehaves, particularly a dog who jumps up on any person they meet. A jumping dog will eventually knock someone over. The person could be badly injured, and you might be facing a lawsuit. For your own safety and piece of mind, it’s essential to take the time to learn how to stop dog jumping behavior. Doing so will ensure that your dog is an enjoyable member of your family.

Herb Gardening Tips That Will Give Anyone A Green Thumb

When first learning how to garden, herbs are a great way to start. Herbs are not demanding as they do well in less than perfect soil and do not require the same special care as other plants. Many are not susceptible to insects, and do not need be trimmed as regularly. The following basic herb gardening tips will provide you with a good base to get started on an herb garden:

You’ll need just a few tools to plant your chosen herbs; a pocket-size spade and shovel should work for most planting since plant cuttings and seeds only require small holes near the surface. For aeration (good drainage is ideal for herbs), you may want a spike, but a kitchen fork will also work fine.

Intermittent pruning is helpful in optimizing herb growth. A pair of quality pruning shears is a necessity, as ordinary scissors that work well for smaller, more flexible materials, will not work as swiftly or easily as a pair of pruning shears when it comes to woody stems and other jobs.

A fine watering can may prove indispensable to your herb garden depending on your arrangements. Some prefer to pour water out a one inch opening which is just right for some plants. But for herbs, which require less water, one of the most basic herb gardening tips is that you can avoid the most common mistake of over watering by using sprinklers, the type of watering can punched with a number of small holes designed to easily control the amount of water to be given.

For a container garden a watering can is adequate, but if you possess a larger plot of earth it is a good idea to purchase some kind of watering system, preferably an automatic one. A simple drip or soaker system is relatively inexpensive, although your climate may require replacement occasionally, and is easy to set up and maintain.

Soaker hoses are a convenient tool that can be spread across even larger areas (say 20′ x 30′) in under an hour; simply create an arrangement snug to the plants and anchor it to the ground with plastic or metal spikes. When winter arrives, be sure to store your hoses. Harsh cold weather elements will clog and rot hoses after just a few seasons.

A wheelbarrow is one of the most useful accessories to your garden; it is handy for transporting weeds and moving garden cuttings from place to place as you carry out maintenance tasks- that way everything is in one place when it comes to bagging cuttings at the end of the day.

In order to help reduce the need for weeding, as well as improve the soil composition of your garden, place a 3-4 inch layer of much after planting. Any or all of the following combined will make a suitable mulch: wood chips, bark, gravel, or shredded newspaper. When spreading the mulch, be sure to allow approximately one inch of open space around the base of the plant. This will assure that too much moisture and heat do not build up, as these factors can can harm plants.

It is not hard to follow these basic herb gardening tips. All you need are a few quality tools, some seed packets, and a plot of ground with good soil to create an excellent herb garden.

Basic Tips On How To Grow Basil

Learning how to grow Basil will be beneficial to anyone who loves to cook as it has many uses in a variety of recipes beyond the Italian dishes we most associate it with.

Basil is an easy herb to grow provided you give it plenty of sunlight and warm temperature. Basil seeds grow quickly with plenty of water and rich soil. If you really want to go the easy route, you can buy a simple herb kit which contains what you need to get started growing basil.

Basil does need to grow in soil that is properly drained, so you need to be sure to get a container that has good drainage. Look for planters or pots with large holes or you can put some pebbles, rough gravel and rocks at the bottom to contain the water.

Keep in mind that basil will not survive a frost if you are planting it outside. The seeds are small, but most will sprout and the seedlings can be thinned out later if needed so don’t be afraid to plant several in one pot. If you are using a container, sprinkle the seeds lightly with soil and water with a spray bottle.

Sunlight requirements are pretty important when learning how to grow basil. This herb needs 6 - 8 hours of sunlight a day. If you are growing your basil indoors, place the pot in a sunny location. When growing basil in your garden, select a spot where it will get sun for most of the day but will also be sheltered from strong wind.

Basil plants need to be watered two or three times a week. They also need to be fertilized each month. Try to keep the water at the base of the plant because if they get on the leaves it allows fungi to set in.

As flowers appear on your basil plant, remove them by pinching them off. In that way the plant uses its energy to produce tasty leaves instead of flowers, providing you with the most flavorful product.

Learning how to grow basil allows you to have a stock of the herb available all the time. By using indoor growing containers, you can grow your plants all year long. Make sure to plant three or four pots at once, and only harvest the upper leaves of each plant, to make sure the basil stays healthy and lasts for a long time.

Puppy Teething Relief

Published under Family by Lee Dobbins. No Comments .

by Lee Dobbins

Every puppy will go through a teething stage. Learning some simple puppy teething relief techniques can make this painful time easier on both your puppy and you.

There are two stages at which a puppy has teeth coming in. The first stage is when, at about three weeks old, they get their baby teeth. This first set of teeth is generally not as prone to problems as when the adult set starts to come in. They will most likely appear without you even noticing.

Your puppy will begin to get adult teeth at 6 months of age. The canines come in first, followed by the incisors and finally the pre-molars.

In order to save your shoes and furniture from the gnawing behaviors of your teething puppy, this is when you should seek puppy teething relief! This will also alleviate some of his pain, as well.

You’ll no doubt notice that your dog is suddenly chewing on everything at this time! Neither your clothes nor your furniture is safe. Many people pass it off as being part of puppyhood, but you can be assured that it means he is getting his adult teeth, and gnawing on your stuff is the way he’s trying to alleviate the discomfort.

Gnawing on things is just instinctive for your dog, so unfortunately you can’t do a lot about it. But asking your vet for relieving gel might help your dog feel better. It might even save you some stress about your furniture and shoes, as it may reduce the need to chew. Make sure you try to redirect the chewing behaviors to new chew toys rather than your new shoes! You can hope that he will choose a favorite chew toy and leave other forbidden items alone.

Just like with children, puppies teethe. They also need something to help relieve the pain. Babies are often given frozen teething rings and the same can be done for puppies. A chew toy can easily be frozen and then given to the puppy either over night, during the day or both. The best option would be to have several chew toys cycling through being frozen and being used.

Puppy teething lasts a minimum amount of time, but is very uncomfortable and painful for your puppy, not to mention the stress on you. Try easing the pup’s discomfort by offering him an old shoe to chew on for some old fashioned puppy teething relief. Save these old shoes as they will come in handy when you try to teach your puppy proper leash training at a later time.

As the size and the quality of television grows so does the size of the space needed to accommodate our Entertainment needs. A generation ago televisions where not what they are today they were tucked away in the corner or not even in the living room at all. Today, however we devote whole rooms to our home entertainment - here are some tips designing a home theatre room in your own home.

Consider choosing a large room that is rectangular in size. You may also want high ceilings to make the room feel more authentic, more like an actual movie theatre. Also, to allow for increased noise you will probably need to add some type of soundproofing device or equipment.

If you decide to place your home theatre in your basement or any other room that has low level light, you will actually be making an excellent choice. Low level light is ideal for the home theatre but even if you select a brighter room that has windows, you can place dark curtains or use room darkening shades that block out sunlight to get the proper effect.

Next thing in designing a home theatre room is the sound and space. The room should be away from bedrooms or other rooms where noise would be bothersome. If the room is near other rooms a good option would be to soundproof the room by adding insulation before you hang the sheetrock or adding soundproofing panels to the walls. The space should be large enough to fit some nice comfortable seating for you your family and friends. Remember to keep the seating at the right distant from the television for best viewing.

You will probably also want to set up stereo TV and surround time, but we will save that for another article. Just make sure to research what electronics are available to fulfill your needs and how you can make them work properly.

There’s more to designing a home theatre room than just the shape, size, and electronics. You’ll also want to add your personal style with small details that really make the room special. Find couches or chairs that reflect your personality, or even memorabilia from your favorite movies. If you have enough room, you could even include a popcorn machine or a bar. These finishing touches will really be the aspects that you take great pride in.
